Things you can do without at your wedding

Personally, this blog was hard for me to write because I am such a traditional girl.  I prefer order and most times I believe if it’s not broken don’t fix it.  However, it is 2016 and things have changed so much.  I came up with my top 5 things I could part with for my own wedding and know you would feel the same.  Some things just aren’t necessity anymore.

  1. Aisle Runners-  If you’re having an outdoor ceremony (and I was your coordinator), honestly, I’d tell you to skip it.  Nothing is more annoying than an aisle runner blowing in the wind.  Try other options to outline your aisle like flower petals, lanterns or chair décor.
  2. Bouquet and garter tosses-  A few of our brides have opted to skip the traditional bouquet and garter tosses.  For one, most of their guests are in relationships and two, it takes too much time to pull guests onto the floor; especially the guys.  Skipping this tradition will allot more time for partying.
  3. Programs-  I remember when I was growing up in the church I folded so many wedding programs!  It was so funny to watch the women panic when they ran short.  After the ceremony, I would find so many programs on the floor and left on the seats.  Friends, no one wants a program.  If you must tell your guests the order of the day, find an alternative.   We offer to make 16x20 signs for our couples.  You can also find super cute signs and boards on Etsy.
  4. You don’t have to wear the same dress all day-  You may call this a stretch but for those that have disposable income OR are ultimate bargain shoppers, why not?!  Maybe you want two different looks or couldn’t decide on just one dress.  Have fun, it’s your day!  Grooms, you too!  Change your jacket, tie or whole suit.
  5. Impromptu surprises-  A wedding is a planned event.  Nothing confuses guests more than a weird pause to bring in a groom’s cake, when it’s not time to cut any cake or a random speech when it’s time to dance.  If you must insert a surprise of any kind, make sure you, your coordinator and photographer know when it’s time for the surprise and how it will be executed smoothly.
Bonus!  After surveying a few friends, a popular item they said they can do without at weddings are long song renditions.  This does not apply if your singer is performing during the bridal party procession.  It does apply if the song is to be done in the middle of the ceremony and what was suppose to be 2 minutes has turned into a mini concert.  Thoroughly discuss this with your songstress so they know your expectations and timeline.
